Twenty-three colors. The other three snowmen are close-ups; this one pulls back, and what fills the extra space is weather. Drifts, falling flakes, and a wide dusk sky — which makes this the most meditative of the four and the one with the longest uninterrupted runs. Whole evenings of near-whites and blues where your hand knows what to do and your head goes quiet.

The mittens, the scarf, and the bell are the color. They are also about ten percent of the canvas. The rest is snow, and that is the point.

Every bag sealed, numbered, DMC code printed on the front — which on a canvas this full of near-whites is not a nicety. You are not telling them apart by eye. You read the bag.

HOW IT GETS TO YOU

Every canvas is unfolded, rolled, and re-bagged by hand before it leaves here. Then it ships in a box, not an envelope. That is slower and it costs more. We do it because a canvas that spends a week folded in a mailer is a canvas you fight for every hour you work on it.
