A peacock on a blossoming branch, his tail spilling teal and gold over a valley of pale jade mountains, pink roses opening along the bough. It has the calm of an old chinoiserie panel — soft blue distance, a little gold light in the clouds.

Twenty-eight colors, DMC 224 through DMC 3866. And unlike most panoramic canvases, this one is built in two halves.

The plumage is hundreds of small color shifts, close work, chart in hand. The mountains and the misty sky behind them are long, unbroken runs of pale jade where you stop thinking and just place. You will find yourself alternating — an hour of concentration, then an hour of nothing at all. Most people do the tail when they are sharp and the sky when they are tired.

Sixty hours or more. At 90x50cm this is more than twice the area of a standard 45x45.

What you are actually buying. Not a peacock. The evenings — hands busy, tray full, light on over the table, phone in the other room because you cannot pick it up with wax on your fingers.

About the drills. Customers have never asked for more drills, but if you need them, we will provide them. Kits come overpacked because the alternative is you, at eleven at night, short of a color, with nothing to do about it. Every bag sealed, numbered, DMC code printed on the front — which matters on a tail where the teals run into each other and the golds do too.

HOW IT GETS TO YOU

Every canvas is unfolded, rolled, and re-bagged by hand before it leaves here. Then it ships in a box, not an envelope. That is slower and it costs more. We do it because a canvas that spends a week folded in a mailer is a canvas you fight for every hour you work on it.
